Understanding Institutional Culture
Understanding the institutional culture of a university and the scientific workplaces that transfer students may encounter in the future is critical to success. To address institutional factors that prevent successful transfers and retention, ULMSP mentors, staff and faculty describe the history, values, procedures and level of productivity at the university that govern student performance, promotion and success on the campus. During the ULMSP summer residential program, students are introduced to a wide variety of campus academic support services, cultural and student groups, wellness resources, potential professors and alumni. Living on campus while attending the program provides commuter students exposure to the joys and challenges of campus life, while facilitating a space to allow the students build their own sense of community amongst themselves to further support each other.
